Oh How I Miss JJK

Quick little note here: this entire post is built on the idea that you, the viewer, have even an iota of an idea what Jujutsu Kaisen is and what Lobotomy Kaisen is; if not, then this likely won't make too much sense. Also, some spoilers up ahead. Other than that, new Beyond Myself post (YAY!)

Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) officially received an anime adaptation on October 3rd, 2020, and spawned a heavy hitter in the anime world. I am personally a huge fan of JJk. I find the environment and characters interesting, and especially with the anime adaptation, the fights and their animation have been something to marvel at, even though that applies more so in season 2 and beyond. Honestly, the art style change from season 1 to season 2 that MAPPA did was a little jarring, but definitely not bad, and I can't complain. They just decided they were going for extra credit out of nowhere, but I like it.

JJK Season 3 Part 1: The Culling Games, one of the most anticipated seasons in anime, began on January 8th, 2026. Since then, there have been weekly episodes every Thursday (maybe a break week or two, but no mind) up until March 26th, 2026.

I remember leaving lectures on Thursdays and being so excited to get home and put on that new JJK. The train ride felt shorter, and I purposely avoided all social media so I wouldn't get spoiled or see any slander before I could join in. For the past month or so, I have been unable to do exactly that. I've been sent back into a mundane weekly schedule, Thursdays have become just Thursdays, and I'm super bummed about it.

Now this does sound a little dramatic, and "woe is me" right? But I don't know, it was sweet having that ritual, getting home and seeing straight hands for 20 or so minutes. It felt like being a kid again and getting up early for a Dragon Ball episode or whatever else was airing at the time. I've resorted to fan animations and re-reading the manga, or reading the slander within the remnants of Lobotomy Kaisen. I'm also bummed that the Culling Game is separated into two parts. We didn't get Hakari vs. Kashimo this season, not Kenjaku vs. Choso and Yuki, not Maki vs. Curse Naoya, etc.

However, we did get fed this season with Yuji vs. Higuruma, Potential Man vs. Reggie Star, the first look at Hakari and Kirara, Choso vs. Naoya, and the Zenin Massacre; And don't get me started on Sendai Colony. Even then, I'm skipping a few. We ate really well this season, and as much as I grieve for the end, there was also so much beauty and joy in experiencing this season.

I hate to say it, but I need MAPPA animators back in that studio asap. Supposedly, season 4 comes out late 2027-early 2028, but that's a bit of time for some more peak. And god knows what they're planning for Sukuna vs. Gojo and the Sukuna Raid arc. Now, obviously, I want the animators to get their well-deserved break, since MAPPA has had them chained to their pencils, but to keep up their quality of work, I'll happily wait. Does suck though that it'll be a while til we see the end of the series animated. But it is what it is.

In the meantime, I think I'll finally get around to watching Frieren.
