The Magic You Seek is Within
I am always looking for things that make me feel small in relation to the universe. We are much smaller than the universe, but we spend a lot of time acting as if the opposite were true. Humans tend to make themselves (and their problems) seem larger than life. I am definitely guilty of this behavior. I rise and fall with my own self-inflicted tides, magnify my issues to the point of distortion, but I am always happiest when I can feel like a tiny speck.
Nothing good comes of being extremely zoomed in on our own little perspectives, so certain that the way things seem is the way they are. I, for one, would hate to live in a world where I was right all the time (even though I love being right). Where I was never surprised, never confused. Where it never seemed like a force greater than myself was nipping at my heels, urging me forward in uncharted directions.
In other words, I would hate to live in a world without magic.
If you have been reading Manolo Blognik for a while, you already know I am a big fan. I write about how believing in yourself is a kind of magic, among other topics. There are many types of magic, of course, but they all have the same effect on me. Magic disrupts my routine. It lets me see the extraordinary in the ordinary. It forces me to confront the fact that there are things out there bigger than myself, and thank goodness for that! It would be exhausting to be the center of the universe.
October: Being Enchanted by the Little Things
The change of season always comes with a magnetic pull, and Autumn’s is especially strong. We are all craving a cruncy leaf, a cozy night, a candle to light in the 4 PM darkness. The energy shift is palpable, so make the most of it and make magic wherever you can.
Consult with the Moon
She harbors the best advice, and this month, there is a really special one. On October 10th, the new moon is in Libra. New moons are a great time to reflect on your current feelings/boundaries/relationships, and ponder what you want to take with you into the next cycle.
Journaling Prompt: Think of the relationships closest to you. Who in your life connects you most to your future? Who connects you to your past, and to your present? Is there any overlap between the three? Reflect on what each of these relationships brings you, and how you hope they grow or change in the coming months.
Cherish your Rituals
I am kind of allergic to doing the same thing all the time, but rituals remain important. Treat your skincare routine like you are performing a spell; give yourself adequate time to wind down and wake up in the morning; commit to a day of the week to clean your space; or journal alone at a cafe or say an affirmation in the mirror.
Lean into the Temporary
Everything that comes will go, and that is what makes it special in the first place. A change in seasons is a reminder that we are always moving through phases, and we must appreciate what we have before it leaves. Fun ways to lean into the temporary: collect falling leaves, enjoy the flavors of Autumn, attend a local festival. Do what can only be done right here and now. You will be glad you experienced it when Winter comes.
Be the Magic
Sometimes being the magic means being magic for yourself, like letting yourself believe that good things have happened to you before, and therefore will continue to happen. Sometimes being the magic means being the magic for someone else, like surprising a friend who needs their spirits lifted, or treating your partner to something special just because. Make the seemingly impossible seemingly possible, and you have done your job for either.
Open Your Heart to Transformation
When you are more connected to the people around you and the world around you, you become bigger than yourself. There are new ideas just around the corner, waiting for you to unearth them. There are new experiences you can access if only you take a few steps outside. Always be open to the possibility of expansion, as long as you are open to more, more will find you.
Bonus:
Your mind is more powerful than you realize. Be very careful about the things that you believe in, because the more you tell yourself something, the more likely it is to be true. Start the month with some good by making a list of positive things you know to be true about yourself and the world.
With love,
Kierstyn
