January has been a crazy month, to say the very absolute least. With all the craziness that has been happening in this world these last few months, I safely say, on behalf of everyone, we need something to take our minds off the insanity.
Annnnd that’s what I’ve been trying to do here with The Roadcrew every Wednesday night, 10pm to 12am! Actually, it’s more like 11:50pm, because I get kicked out of the building a little bit earlier. But I digress.
During the month, The Roadcrew successfully had three shows(I say successfully because last semester I ran into various issues), and if I do say so, they were pretty good. The first set consisted of classics like “Fireball” by Deep Purple, Lust for Life by “Iggy Pop”, and “Tie Your Mother Down” by Queen. I also threw in a little bit of Twenty One Pilots and Arctic Monkeys, just for the diversity of modern music.
The second show, my favorite of the month, was kicked off with a “special”, hour set dedicated to the inauguration, featuring classic and modern protest anthems like Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”, “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival, and “Troubled Times” by Green Day.
The third show was the most diverse set I have put together thus far. What do I mean? For starters, Thrash metal band Anthrax, classic rock band The Who, and the vocal group Dion and the Belmonts started the night.
So what are my plans for the next month?
Well, while the other weeks are not set in stone, February 8th will be my Grammy special. That meaning that it’s just going to be my top songs from 2016. Hey, it may have been a pretty bad year(minus the Cubs going all the way and Metallica finally dropping a new album), I can say it had some pretty good tracks.
So go and tune in to The Roadcrew, Wednesday night, at 10pm! (But like I’m not the boss of you. You do you. But it would be the coolest thing ever if you did.)
