Maple Tree Entertainment Pays Homage to Iconic Folk-Rock Duo

“The Simon & Garfunkel Story” is a musical directed by Dean Elliot and David Beck, which tells the story of the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel and highlights significant moments in their careers. The show “relives the moments that justified their ten Grammy Awards and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction” (Broadway Buzz). The musical features Taylor Bloom playing the role of Paul Simon, and Benjamin Cooley playing the role of Art Garfunkel. The cast will be making their way through Chicago from November nineteenth to December eighth, performing at the Broadway Playhouse at Watertower Place.

The musical features a full live band as well as projections of real footage from major performances like their 1981 concert in Central Park (which had one of the biggest concert turnouts of all time with around 500,000 attendees). The show is around two hours and is packed with all of the bestsellers’ greatest hits, like “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “The Sound of Silence” to name a couple.

The show has received rave reviews from it’s run in other parts of the world, being described as “authentic and exciting” by The Stage’s Pat Ashworth. I think seeing the show would be a fun night out whether you’re a fan of the duo or not, particularly if you tend to enjoy live music. The show is said to touch on their infamous 1970 split, solo careers, etc. So if you’re interested in learning more about them this is the show to see. The two now-solo artists Simon and Garfunkel are both playing U.S shows frequently enough these days, and although they don’t currently have any Chicago dates lined up, we might get lucky and see them pass by soon. In this case, “The Simon and Garfunkel Story” would be a good show to see before you go in order to brush yourself up on the need-to-know information of these guys’ roots.
