With fast fashion becoming a prevalent issue in society due to poor working conditions and environmental hazards, more and more people are opting to shop at thrift stores. However, sometimes it can be difficult to find one’s desired clothes to coincide with today’s fashion trends. Thankfully, Chicago has an abundance of thrift stores that are able to satisfy different styles of clothing for low prices, and you won’t be giving your dollar to the fast-fashion affliction. Here are some of the most popular and on-trend thrift stores that Chicago has to offer:
1. Buffalo Exchange

Located in Wicker Park, Buffalo Exchange is somewhere I have personally shopped for years, and have loved. People have complimented the clothing I have gotten from there and are most surprised to hear it was actually from a thrift store. They have a wide selection of clothes in both the men’s and women’s sections. The store is a bit cramped since they have a lot of customers and a lot of clothing, but this store is definitely worth your time.
2. Pilsen Vintage

This vintage boutique is filled with previously-owned men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, furniture, knick-knacks, and decor. Some of the stuff can get a little bit pricey, but it is important to keep in mind that this is more of a “high-end” thrift store and they are very selective in what they take from people. When you go to Pilsen Vintage, you know you will be getting quality items that are both unique and in good condition.
3. Knee Deep Vintage

This well-curated shop has a nice atmosphere to spend your time in. Their collection consists of unique clothing and house-ware, but one thing to consider is that their men’s section is lacking a little bit. Because of the plethora of customers going in and out on the daily, their selection tends to always be changing, meaning you won’t be seeing the same pieces every time you walk in the store.
4. Crossroads Trading

Another thrift store located in Wicker Park, Crossroads, is a contemporary thrift store that sells luxury secondhand clothing items for a reasonable price. They have excellent customer service and a large variety of items to choose from. A lot of their clothing tends to be brand-name, so if you are looking for popular, fashionable items typically found at Urban Outfitters, this is the shop for you.
5. Ragstock

Lastly, there is a Ragstock. Ragstock is a chain store selling both new and used items for great prices. This store has a vintage and retro vibe to it. It’s a great store for someone who is just easing into thrift shopping but not wanting to spend the time searching through racks of clothing to find the item you are looking for. At Ragstock, every item they have is a gem.
