Why You Need to Know 070Shake

2016 has been a year full of relatively unknown artists making moves in the mainstream rap game, with Lil Yachty soaring to popularity after his first release on Capitol Records, and now Rae Sremmurd taking the #1 Billboard spot with their hit “Black Beatles,” and this past weekend I was blindsided by another new artist that I know for a fact is going to make waves in the near future: 070Shake. A rapper hailing from North Bergen, NJ, Shake is making a name for herself with a uniquely dark sound over snare-heavy trap beats.

Representing the 070 collective, Shake’s music covers a whole range of topics, including relationships, sexuality, race, and just being “different.” Her name first started circulating around rap news websites earlier this year, when she was silently signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, alongside the likes of other semi-new signees Desiigner and Travi$ Scott (who she should most definitely collab with one day). While Shake hasn’t had any large release sing being signed, her track “Rewind” with Lil Yachty is gaining plays and popularity on music streaming websites Spotify and Soundcloud, and she just dropped an incredible video for the single “Trust Nobody.”

I had the opportunity to see Shake’s live show three times this past week, and her stage presence, like her sound, is extremely unique. A mix of Lorde-esque dance moves and Travi$ Scott style bounding around and jumping off amps, Shake bares her soul for the crowd when she is onstage. Shake is a truly talented musician who’s passion for her music and its message is visible while she is performing, so keep your eyes on her, because before you know it she’ll be at the top.
