This past month, I had the pleasure of meeting Emily Grissom: hairstylist, designer, and founder of Daphnis and Chloe Designs. Emily released her jewelry collection on Etsy last month and has been hard at work since then, creating her made to order works of art. Her collection that is currently available includes pieces made of dainty yet durable materials such as gold fill, brass, graphite stone, and snake vertebrae. Daphnis and Chloe jewelry is all customizable so you can make up your own variation of multiple pieces that Emily has already designed. The snake vertebrae can be oxidized in an array of different dyes and can also be coated in copper. Emily is open to working with different stones as well, which would be a great gift for anyone who collects or has a favorite stone. Along with designing her next collection of necklaces, earrings, bangles and bracelets- Emily also has a clothing line in the works. The concept of Daphnis and Chloe Designs is based off of Leon Bakst’s painting which depicts the Greek love story of the young Daphnis and Chloe. The painting makes up the print of Daphnis and Chloe’s business card, which is pictured below. Daphnis and Chloe Designs are sold via Etsy and can also found at Moon Voyage- a cozy, one-of-a-kind boutique located in Wicker Park. Below is a shot of a few pieces including a plate necklace made with brass and graphite stones and a gold fill chain with oxidized snake vertebrae.
