Wuthering Heights - Charli XCX

I went to the theatres on February 13th to see Emerald Fennel’s Wuthering Heights.  Based on the book originally published in 1847. I originally wanted to see this movie for the soundtrack, produced by Charli XCX, and was not disappointed.  This soundtrack gave me everything I wanted and more varying in sounds and feelings. TikTok’s famous House, featuring John Cale, opens the movie and sets the dark tone, giving you a feel for the period of the film.  I really like the opening scene of the movie, because it is a good reminder to viewers to think of the period and traditional rights vs wrongs when it came to marriage.  Wall of Sound is the second song on the track and takes the cherry on top for the album.  The vocals and beat of the song are majestic from the start to the end.  I’ve found myself repeating this song repeatedly anytime I listen to the track, because it is just that good.  The end of the album’s Eyes of the World featuring Sky Ferreira was a pleasant surprise for me.  Sky Ferreira, an American pop artist, released her first single, One, in 2009 and has since been featured on various albums and soundtracks. She is someone whose music I've really started to enjoy as of recently. Her vocals and beat are perfect to dance to, so the two artists coming together for a song on this album was welcomed with open arms. This song is just as magical as the rest of the album, and the Sky Ferreria feature stands out as the perfect addition.  The use of an orchestra throughout this album and film in general is perfectly placed and gives the movie an almost horror-like feeling that works quite well.  This album steps away from Charli XCX’s traditional hyper dance pop music, which we are so familiar with, but I believe will be well placed into her discography.  If you’re a fan of intimate romance movies that contain a lot, and I mean a LOT, of fog, you should go out to a theatre near you and watch Wuthering Heights!  If this isn’t for you, I still cannot recommend the soundtrack enough, and it’s something I find myself consistently returning to over these past few days.
