Young Miko is an artist that has exploded in popularity within the past two years. Her big break started when she dropped her song "Riri," which was being played by everyone in Puerto Rico in July of 2022. Shortly after she dropped her EP "Trap Kitty," she was invited as one of the special guests at Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti concert in San Juan with an incredible amount of praise. This catapulted Miko into the spotlight in her home market of Puerto Rico.
After being a top artist in Puerto Rico for almost a year, the songs that brought her to the global stage were both released in March of 2023. She started the month with a solo single called "Lisa" and closed it off by joining Feid for "CLASSY 101". Following these big hits, she collaborated with many big artists such as Bad Bunny, Bizarrap, Karol G, and even Marshmello.
The only question left for Miko was when would she decide to release her debut album. This question was quickly answered when in April of this year she released "att."
This leads to Miko announcing her XOXO Tour with dates in the United States and Latin America. August 24 & 25 were the dates set for Chicago at Rosemont Theater. One curiously missing LATAM date was for Puerto Rico which she would then announce a surprise concert date back in July before she started going on tour.
I attended both the Puerto Rico, and Chicago concert and will be making note of the differences between them at the end of the blog.
Even before the concert even started, there was a loading screen displayed in theme with the XOXO tour aesthetic which is great to know exactly when the concert was going to start.
The concert was divided into the three vibes of the album. The first half had songs such as "rookie of the year," "oye ma'," "Lisa," and "Riri." Miko's first stage set of the concert was a bedroom set reminiscent of her "princess peach" music video, with every object being colored purple.
The second part of the concert was a more personal and in-your-feelings type vibe. She sang songs such as "en la pichi interlude", "tres tristes tragos", and "no quiero pelear." The set changed into a forest scene while Miko sat on a log with the spotlight on her.
The third part of the concert was more active than the last two, featuring a more general set with some of her biggest hits, such as "offline," "CLASSY 101, " "FINA," and "curita."
The concert's encore song was her music session with Bizarrap where she turns off the lights for everyone to turn on their flashes after she says:
'Biza, apaga las luce', déjame oscura ... Que mi gente prende los flashes si yo pido que los suban'
Miko's Chicago concert had a better overall structure compared to her Puerto Rico concert. The stage sets that were used during the concert were excellently picked to set the mood of the songs she was singing at the time. She also sang all the songs on her album att. while back in Puerto Rico, she skipped some songs such as "en la pichi interlude," and "tres tristes tragos," which made it nice to see how she incorporated it well into the U.S. XOXO tour dates.
Overall, Young Miko's stage presence has always been full of energy and fan interactions. She's constantly keeping the crowd energized and reading all of the signs that people make for her. I'm looking forward to when she decides to pick an even bigger venue here in Chicago, such as the Allstate Arena or maybe even the United Center, as she managed to sell out two dates at Rosemont Theater. Her career seems to be only going up from here, and she demonstrated what she is capable of doing during this concert in Chicago.
