Hello blog readers, it's finally Spring Break! With that, hopefully, comes warmer weather. One of the best things is going out for a walk and listening to music. Recently, I've started putting together my spring playlist. So, let's talk about some bands and one-offs I'm putting on this spring
One of my favorite one-off songs is My God by Tapir!. Tapir!, an Indie Folk band originating in London, lasted just a short time. The band's one album, The Pilgrim, Their God and The King of My Decrepit Mountain, was released in early 2024 and contains 12 songs. One of those songs is My God. A slow, melodic, electronic kick drum opens, followed nicely by guitar. Evelyn Gray's lead vocals suit the song perfectly, giving it an almost mysterious feeling. In a way, this song gives me the same vibe as Back Country, New Road. I call this a one-off song because I don't find myself listening to much more of their music, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different.

The Backseat Lovers are one of my all-time favorite bands. The Backseat Lovers, a 4-piece rock band formed in Provo, Utah, released their first piece of music in 2018. Elevator Days is a 5-track EP consisting of some of the band's most underrated songs. Out Of Tune is the first song on the album and may be one of my favorite songs of all time. Led by Joshua Harmon, the band's vocals are amazing. Out Of Tune features some great licks and beautiful rhythm guitar. 1 year after the release of Elevator Days, the band released their first studio album, When We Were Friends. This album features 9 songs and is a contender for my favorite album of all time, a no-skip album for sure. The most notable song is Kilby Girl. Muted guitar picks and catchy lyrics make this the perfect song for your summer recap Instagram post. My favorite song on the album, Sinking Ship, is the last and follows a similar formula to Kilby Girl. Muted guitar picks, catchy guitar rhythms, loud distorted guitar solos, and defining vocals, all of which I love about this song and album. In 2022, The Backseat Lovers released their second album, Waiting to Spill. The album features 10 songs that vary slightly from the more upbeat tone of When We Were Friends. Waiting to Spill uses a more toned-down vibe and features plenty of piano; however, I'm sure you will be able to find a song for every vibe in this album. My favorite song, Words I Used, is my most listened-to song on Spotify. The difference from beginning to end is unbelievable. If I could go back in time, I would listen to this song for the first time. I love the piano that opens the song, and the vocal overlaps throughout put the cherry on top. Although the band hasn't released any music since 2022, they did confirm (via Instagram) the release of new music this year. The Backseat Lovers give me so much joy, and I can't wait to play them on those long summer hikes.

Whenever I think of spring, I can't help but be happy; it's undoubtedly the best season. With that happiness, of course, comes happy music. Immediately, the band Bleachers comes to mind. Everything Bleachers makes manages to bring me such joy that I can't seem to find from many other bands. Bleachers was formed in 2013 in New Jersey. The Indie Pop band stands out to me for their use of horns in recent songs. Their song Modern Girl is most notable for its horn line opening. This comes from the band's most recent album, Bleachers, released in 2024. Bleachers released their first album, Strange Desire, in 2014 and immediately tasted fame. Strange Desire features the band's most notable tracks, Rollercoaster and I Wanna Get Better. I like to describe both of these songs as "pool" songs that fit with the trendy 2016 trend. Although I have never had the opportunity to see Bleachers live, I can imagine myself screaming these lyrics at the top of my lungs. 3 years after Strange Desire, Bleachers released Gone Now, their second studio album. Although less notable, the album still features some catchy beats like Don't Take The Money and Goodmorning. Recently, Bleachers has released 2 new songs you and forever and dirtty wedding dress which belong to their album, everyone for ten minutes, set to be released in May of this year. Of the two songs you and forever and dirtty wedding dress, I prefer dirty wedding dress for its awesome horn section. I expect this next album to be very similar to their self-titled, and I like the direction the band is moving in.

Hopefully, you all can take this spring break to kick back, relax, and listen to some amazing music. Personally, I plan to do nothing and enjoy the break we have before finals season.
