Spotify Wrapped 2024 is getting closer. I want to share some of my favorite non-English songs and the stories that come with them.
把回忆拼好给你- 王貳浪
The original version of this song is in Japanese, titled "Negai Anokoro no Kimi e." However, its Chinese version has gained significant popularity in Vietnam, my home country. I believe this is because the Chinese rendition evokes a deeper sense of melancholy and longing, resonating strongly with listeners. It was suggested to me while I was listening to "Listen Not," the ending song of Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 4 which is the second song I want to recommend.
Listen Not
First, the animation absolutely cinema. Game Science, the developer behind this masterpiece, is renowned for its animation work. Each chapter of the game concludes with a short animated sequence that not only wraps up the story but also highlights the studio's strength in this area.
For many of us who grew up watching Journey to the West, the game carries a sense of nostalgia, bringing back a lot of childhood memories. The music is equally phenomenal, especially when you know the backstories. The ending of this chapter, in particular, is both heart-wrenching and beautiful. What an amazing game and song :)!
Từng quen- Wren Evens
Rising to fame with the hit "Thích Em Hơi Nhiều," Wren Evans chose not to follow the conventional path of traditional ballad or pop music. Instead, he embraced a more edgy, experimental, and profound style that extends to both his fashion and music. In 2023, Wren Evans made a powerful comeback, cementing his place in V-pop with his debut album. Known for his exceptional musical vision, he puts significant effort into both music production and visually captivating MVs. If you're new to his work, "Từng Quên" is a great starting point, though the entire album is well worth exploring.
Fun fact: The co-producer of this album studied at our school! :)
Nếu- Marzuz
Her first album is set to release this Thursday, November 28. With an exceptional voice and truly unique music, Marzuz is a standout artist you won’t want to miss! I first heard about her through a friend who said Marzuz was her favorite artist. Marzuz isn’t just a talented composer and performer; she’s also a skilled multi-instrumentalist with a distinctive and captivating personal style. Don’t forget to support her and check out her upcoming projects!
I don' t wanna get out of futon- Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai
My roommate introduced me to this band through this song and mentioned that she first heard it while studying Japanese—one of her instructors played it in class. It's funny because the song is about how hard it is to get out of a futon in winter. Now, living in Chicago, I feel it more than ever.
