Tarot One at a Time, Part 6

Welcome back to my tarot learning series! Starting March 10th, Jupiter will be going direct. Until this point you might have struggled with imbalanced moods, anxiety around finances, and just overall stagnancy. Jupiter is the Roman equivalent of Zeus, it represents growth, possibility, and opportunities. When Jupiter is direct, that energy manifests into objective reality pushing for action. Expect long wait periods to be over. You’ll find yourself looking back at lessons the retrograde taught you; what security looks like for you, specifically with your family or home. Move forward with passion and complete self-acceptance, you have earned it!

This week's cards are The Devil, The Tower, and The Star.

(Quick note: upright means the card appears straight; reversed means it appears upside down.)

The Devil XV

Card Description: The Devil card shows a large, horned figure seated on a pedestal. The figure has bat like wings, horns, and inverted star on its forehead. (Inverted manifestations of things usually represent a different version of what we normally understand them to be. For example, a star is usually seen as something hopeful, but if it’s inverted, it could represent doom.) This card reminds me of The Lovers, except the dynamic here lacks autonomy. Chains are around their necks which leads to the Devil behind them. Both figures have parts of the devil, like small horns from their heads. The female figure has vines growing from her, while the male figure has flames sprouting from his tail that connect to the torch the Devil lowers down. The Devil’s a facial expression reminds me of the painting Saturn Devouring His Son by Francisco Goya.

Upright

You feel as if you are bound to overindulgence with a lack of autonomy. It feels hard to find things in your life that you appreciate because it all feels repetitive. You want to get your life together and work towards your passions, but it’s exhausting overcoming your urges.

Relationships:  Whether it’s with friends or lovers, you are indulging and possibly hurting that person in pursuit of your own satisfaction. What impression are you giving others? Are you blindsiding them until it no longer is fun to you? There might also be a bit of co-dependency, which helps neither person.

Finances:  You might be in a cycle of overspending with no interest in adjusting this. If you do want to fix this, you might be feeling stuck resulting in self-sabotage. There is so much you can do to get yourself past this, look over solutions again and move forward.

Self-Growth:  Break from the chains that bind you, only you hold power over yourself. You are pushed to evaluate parts of yourself that hold you back, and to come with extensive steps to get rid of them. Find sports or activities that encourage self-awareness.

Reversed

You have decided to break away from things that hold you down. This isn't an easy change, but you will make it possible. This shows that you are gaining more control of your life moving forward.

Relationships:  This could mean parting ways from someone who you felt overpowered by. It could also mean that patterns that kept you from forming healthy relationships no longer exist.

Finances:  You are finding your independence and financial freedom. This can look like adjusting habits that no longer serve you or working through financial dependency.

Self-Growth:  You need to break free from anything harmful you find yourself drawn to. It's. important that you value your authenticity by nurturing it. Work on harmful habits by talking to a support system or even vocalizing it to yourself. It's important to take time caring for yourself and adjusting things that don't help you.

The Tower XVI

Card Description: Chaos surrounds the card. From a long tower, two people are falling down. (Some say it's the same people from the devil card, escaping the turmoil they are going through) One has a crown on their head, and the other has a red cloak. A lightning bolt hits the top of the tower, resulting in smoke and fire. The three windows also have peeks of fire coming out of them. There is a giant crown falling from the top of the tower, and the bottom of the building seems uprooted. The destruction shown is happening suddenly and violently.

Upright

Change that happens whether you like it or not. Most times it's an urgent push you're forced to go through, but it's still a decision you end up making. What you're used to will no longer apply to you from here on out.

Relationships:  Necessary change that you need to accept and apply. There might be something unhealthy you have been aware of for a while but haven't made an effort to remove. It's important you do. This can also mean re-evaluating the waning of relationships in your life and your satisfaction with them.

Finances:  It's important to think about every possibility. In this case, what's the worst that could happen to you financially? Make decisions moving forward with that in mind. This doesn't mean you should be paranoid, just that you should have savings or at least work toward that.

Self-Growth:  Accept upcoming change or it will shake your foundation. It's okay if things don't work out the way you planned. Sometimes sudden changes are things you look back on and end up appreciating later. If The Hanged Man represents a time of objective pause but soul learning, The Tower represents objective movement toward constant change.

Reversed

Change is still upcoming, but you are resistant to it. Making new things bigger than they are can cause unnecessary stress. By wholeheartedly accepting the message this card gives you, you can receive clarity on situations you have been questioning and find inner peace. Once you go through the worst, your reality can only improve.

Relationships:  There is a lot of resentment between both people, and you are avoiding communication. This will grow into something too large to keep inside, which may result in a disproportionate argument.

Finances:  Resolving financial issues at the brink over and over again doesn't create a lasting solution. Sometimes it's better to accept reality and let something go. If you can't afford payments on one thing, see if you can get rid of it or if you can ask someone dependable for help. (If you ask someone for help, make sure it's someone you can trust. Owing someone money can create anxiety if the relationship isn't stable.)

Self-Growth:  Stop resisting change and embrace growth. Delaying change will only result in catastrophe you may not be able to handle. Ask yourself: how can you adjust for the future? How can you work toward smoother transitions?

The Star XVII

Card Description: A woman holds two pitchers. She pours one into the body of water in front of her, and she pours the other into the grass. The water she pours onto the grass breaks into 5 different streams as it runs down, nourishing the plants. Above her are 7 white 8-pointed stars surrounding one large yellow 8-pointed star. One of her feet is in the body of water, while the other is bent on the grass. This reminds me of Temperance, because there is also pouring happening, but The Star doesn't involve pouring from one cup to another like the angel. She's pouring back into the earth and water.

Upright

Since this card comes right after The Tower, it's important to understand it as a moment of grounding. After the sudden change and disruption of The Tower, this card reminds you to reconnect with yourself. You are abundant. The imagery reflects that; the water, the plants, the pond, and the stars all point to renewal. The woman can represent a higher power or guiding presence. She pours resources back into us, restoring balance and returning what was lost.

Relationships:  Your energy is very positive and optimistic right now. Friends or possible lovers may feel pulled toward you because of that energy. You may have been through a time where you lacked the support system you needed and had to work through things on your own. It may not be obvious to you, but your magnetism towards others is very high right now.

Finances:  You will have an easier time reaching your financial goals, whether that's through practical ways of saving that you've put the time into setting up, or cutting bad investments loose, you will see the results of that, it will work out for you while highlighting the lessons you've learned.

Self-Growth:  You need to embrace a new, more positive way of viewing things. With the hardships you have been through, it's easy to get comfortable in that pessimistic energy. Do things you enjoy, explore your creative interests, and just be grateful for the things you have and what has remained with you up to this point.

Reversed

You might be feeling like everything is set against you. You feel like you can't push past the hardships you're going through, you're being really hard on yourself. You shouldn't be. This is a loss of self-confidence after difficult experiences, don't convince yourself your future is doomed. The sense of defeat can show up in your actions, and if you're not confident in yourself, it can create obstacles that don't need to be there. Your past does not equate your future.

Relationships:  You might find that your negative view of yourself clouds how you judge how others perceive you, especially in newer relationships. Because you see yourself from a negative angle, you might assume they see you that way too. That projection can be felt by others, and it would probably push them away, just because of that reinforcement.

Finances:  Despite struggling with finances, it's important to understand that there are still solutions to salvage your financial issues. Really look at your resources and take the time to understand your situation before quickly giving up.

Self-Growth:  Look around you and understand that you are beyond abundant. Right now, there may be a sense of disillusionment with how you see yourself, which can make you feel hopeless or like your experiences define who you are. This is a great time to make space for yourself. It's okay to feel like you have failed but understand that you really haven't. Life is about learning constantly, growing through experiences, and recognizing your worth even when you feel like everything is set against you.
