Blog! Blog! Blog!

Wait, is this about me?

ree

Have you ever listened to a song and thought that it could’ve been written for you, about you, or maybe even by you?

Obviously, we all have lyrics that hit close to home. But some songs go beyond that, and they feel like they were created specifically for you, saying everything you’ve ever felt but never could put into words.

Here are a few songs that feel like that for me:

“Andromeda” – Weyes Blood

“Love is calling / It’s time to give to you / Something you can hold onto / I dare you to try”

Every lyric of this song feels relatable. It captures the struggle to find real, lasting love and trust in a world full of distractions and past disappointments. The vastness of the Andromeda Galaxy becomes a metaphor for hope and reaching for connection. It’s about wanting to be loved and saved after being wounded, yet still daring to open up again. I loveee Weyes Blood.

“Get Free” – Lana Del Rey

“I never really noticed that I had to decide / To play someone’s game or live my own life / And now I do / I wanna move / Out of the black / Into the blue”

I really relate to Lana. I feel like she always says things I wish I could. Here, Lana sings about freeing herself from a negative mindset where she was living for others instead of for herself. I really relate to this song. It’s about realizing that the life you were used to, your habits, your relationships, your version of “normal”, isn’t actually who you are. When you finally step away from it, that moment of clarity feels like freedom.

“Lonesome Love” – Mitski

“Spend an hour on my makeup / To prove something”

I relate heavily to many songs by Mitski. This song tells the story of a past lover that Mitski can’t quite move on from, despite convincing herself otherwise. It captures that paradox of longing for connection while feeling completely isolated. She tries to prove her worth through appearances and relationships, only to realize that chasing “lonesome love” often leaves you even lonelier. I mean, yeah, this probably relates to a lot of young people I know.

“Nonchalant” – Suki Waterhouse

“Sometimes I’m so damn nonchalant / That I can’t get to what I want”

Suki Waterhouse is another artist I feel deeply. This song captures the tension between appearing detached and actually craving intimacy. It’s about being the “cool girl in the bar” who secretly wants connection but is too afraid to show it. That fear of vulnerability, the push and pull between wanting to be known and wanting to be safe, is so relatable.

“Ribs” – Lorde

“This dream isn’t feeling sweet / we’re reeling through the midnight streets / and I’ve never felt more alone / it feels so scary getting old”

This song hits so hard. It captures the confusion and heartbreak of growing up, the loss of innocence, and the ache of realizing that nothing stays simple forever. It feels like missing something that’s not even gone yet.

“The Long and Winding Road” – The Beatles

“The long and winding road / That leads to your door / Will never disappear”

For me, this one isn’t necessarily romantic. It’s about never being able to leave a person or place that formed you. Even as you change, part of you always circles back to where it all began.

“Storms” – Fleetwood Mac

“I have always been a storm”

This recurring line captures Stevie Nicks’ belief that her own turbulent nature is an unchangeable part of who she is, something that has shaped both her art and her personal struggles. It’s hauntingly self-aware and relatable.

“Happiness is a Butterfly” – Lana Del Rey

“Happiness is a butterfly / Try to catch it every night / It escapes from my hands into moonlight”

Lana’s song suggests that the harder you chase happiness, the more it slips away. It’s about realizing that peace and joy can’t be forced—they come when you stop gripping so tightly. Which, honestly, feels very true. Things don’t feel happy just because you want them to. But one day, it comes.

“Vienna” – Billy Joel

I can’t end this list like this without Vienna. I know that many young people relate heavily to this song. It reminds me to slow down and appreciate where I am, instead of constantly racing toward something else.

Slow down, you crazy child / You're so ambitious for a juvenile / But then if you're so smart / Tell me why are you still so afraid?

It’s about enjoying the ride before the destination, and that’s advice I always seem to need.

Okay, I realize most of these songs have a little sadness in them, sorry about that. I promise I’m a happy person… But these lyrics hit especially hard depending on what I’m going through. It’s comforting to find the songs that truly see you. Even the ones that used to feel like me don’t hit the same anymore, which I guess is part of growing up. It's not a complete list, but what I came up with today. Maybe it reveals a lot about me personally, or it’s also just a really good playlist.
