Dear White People
Based on the movie with the same title, this show follows a group of several black college students at an Ivy League university. Topics dealt with in this sitcom are highly relative to current issues in society including racial inequality, identity politics, and different forms of social justice. In the first season, each episode focuses on one of the cast members individually with the exception of the finale episode. What makes this show admirable is that its comedy is perfectly tied into the serious issues talked about, so it is funny for watchers without it being insensitive to different cultures.

One Day At A Time
This show is a remake of the show in 1975 of the same name, and the main difference in the remake is that it is centered around a Hispanic family. Located in Los Angeles, this family is raised by a single mother, who happens to be an Army veteran, with the help of their grandmother. The sitcom talks about issues such as mental illness, gender, sexuality, race, and inequality. The show is both comedic and heart-warming, as it takes the audience through different challenges through life and the importance of family through those challenges.

Parks and Recreation
At the Indiana Parks and Recreation Department, Leslie Knope holds a painfully positive attitude in wanting to help upgrade the community park. However, her coworkers fail to see her efforts as productive, and they really only care about their own personal gain. Through an abundance of challenges, Leslie remains optimistic which stems from her love of the town. What makes this show so popular is its clever use of satire and comedy to showcase all of the characters’ distinct personalities which tend to conflict with one another.

The Office
Okay, if you don’t know what The Office is about, you must be living under a rock. This popular Netflix sitcom is an adaptation of the UK version of the show. Set at a paper company called Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the company is run by the kooky and inappropriate boss, Michael Scott. The whole series is basically a “mockumentary” of the everyday lives of the people who work there. Typical workdays are unpredictable including clashes of personalities, strange work events, and even romance between two of the employees.

That 70s Show
Set in the traditional 70s setting filled with tie-dye colors and peace signs, this show surrounds a group of friends who are new to adulthood. The cast includes familiar names such as Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and Laura Prepon. The series mostly takes place in the basement of a suburban Wisconsin house. Fans love this show not only because of the nostalgic aesthetic but because of how completely hilarious it is.
Scorpio
Arrested Development
This show follows a wealthy family living in Orange County, California who must learn how to run their family real estate business that was passed down from one of the characters’ fathers. The father, Michael Bluth, must learn how to juggle his family’s wants and needs, which are most of the time highly unrealistic. Additionally, he works hard to remain a good role model for his teenage son. The show is so funny mainly because of the family’s quirkiness and impractical ways through all of the different storylines.
Sagittarius

After a wealthy family suddenly finds themselves completely broke, they must ditch their glamorous lifestyle and switch to one of “normal” people, which is something that is completely unfamiliar to them. They move to a small town coined Schitt’s Creek, where they must learn to fit in with the rest of society. The parents and two spoiled children struggle to face regular life through comedic episodes filled with first-world problems and unexpected familial bonding.

The Good Place
After Eleanor dies, she is sent into the afterlife, which is divided into “the good place” and “the bad place.” She is sent to the good place, which is highly selective of its residents, where everything is sunshine and rainbows. However, after learning why she was sent there, she realizes she was sent there by mistake and that she didn’t live the life they said she did. With the help of her “soulmate” Chidi, she must learn how to become a good person in order to stay there and keep her secret.
Aquarius
New Girl
The reason I placed New Girl for the Aquarius sign is definitely that I am an Aquarius and New Girl is my favorite show of all time, so I definitely think everyone should watch this show. The show starts off with the main character Jess going through a break-up and moving into a loft with three men who are not very welcoming of her arrival. However, after the first episode, they learn how to deal with her quirky behaviors, and start to open up to the idea of living with her. The show is both funny and heart-warming…truly a must-watch for anyone looking for a good show.
